Directors
Jelte Harnmeijer
Jelte has 10 years’ experience working in both the developed and developing world as a scientist and programme manager. He obtained a PhD at the University of Washington through a NASA grant and continues to contribute to carbon cycling and climate research. Jelte is also interested in the consequences of fuel poverty and climate change on economic and agricultural systems, and has offered courses, workshops and seminars on sustainable economics at universities and community fora. He managed a productive agro-ecological farm in California's largest Indian reservation in 2010. He is currently working towards full FCA accreditation. [][Curriculum Vitae]
Vijay Bhopal
Vijay has a background in both community-based and commercially orientated organisations, having worked in India, The Netherlands and the UK. He has taken part in many research projects, and in 2010 took a lead role in ‘Wind in the Urban Environment’, a financial and technical analysis undertaken for a Dutch environmental consultancy. With Scene, Vijay is involved with a variety of projects as a researcher, consultant and financial analyst – developing some of the financing and partnership models which Scene is espousing. Vijay also acts as Business Manager for micro-developer Sustainable Heat and Power Ltd. He holds a BSc in Geology from The University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Environment and Resource Management from the Free University in Amsterdam.
Energy Analyst
Matthew Parsons
Matthew was until recently working in the nascent tidal energy industry as a device developer with Oceanflow Energy. Matthew has published scientific papers and taught in the fields of neuroscience, physics and engineering, and is now working with the database to strengthen our research base. He also has evolving interests in the areas of digital currencies (Bitcoin), monetary reform (Positive Money), and of course community energy, integration and investment. Matthew holds an MSci from the University of Glasgow and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
Project Coordinator
Darcy Pimblett
Darcy is an environmental policy professional with experience in both State and Local Government in Victoria, Australia. As a project officer in the Victorian Government, Darcy assisted the development of research projects and policy aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the States’ housing stock. He also assisted the coordination of a major review of the State’s bushfire hazard mapping, facilitating collaboration between Government, local authorities, emergency services and developers. As a project officer with the Municipal Association of Victoria, Darcy prepared climate change policy submissions to the State Government on behalf of 78 local councils. With Scene Darcy was largely responsible for the successful organisation of Global Energy Systems Conference 2013. He currently spends a large portion of his time working for the Scottish Government's ClimateXChange.
Legal Analyst
Daniel Hornal
Daniel is an entrepreneur, communications specialist and lawyer. He has run two start-up companies, including ownyourphone.com, a web-based company which enabled customers to make ringtones from their own music. He was Editor in Chief of Ruckus, a community newspaper in Seattle, and has done communications work for start-up companies and labour unions. He completed his J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center and is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C.
